Smart phone addiction is a behavioral addiction that negatively interferes with a person’s life (Choi, 2015). From all of the age groups teenagers is the most involved one. Consequently it impacts teenagers’ education and I posit the view that it affects negatively if the smart phone is over used. 1. Why over usage of smart phones affects negatively students’ education? 2. What harms does nomophobia give to teenagers’ health? 3. What should be done to regulate this issue?
Technology is a process that can and should be used in education as it helps to explore new horizons. Technology brings new ideas and inspiration. The innovations in technology including huge improvements of smart phones might help to keep us smart and that is the main reason why it should be used in education. For instance, the usage of mobile applications in a classroom seems to be the demand of the era as well as being very enjoyable and effective way of teaching. Yet a few decades ago, the notion of smart phones of any kind seemed unlikely; we are now surrounded by it.It is important to limit the technology in a daily basis because it is necessary sometimes to not feel anxiety in the “need to be connected”. Now, let’s consider the reasons why smart phones affect teenagers’ life negatively.
1. The over usage of smart phone, nomophobia, is not the case only in education and only for teenagers rather this is an issue that creates problems in the whole society. The rise in addiction affects students’ ability to study. You can not expect concentration during the lessons from the students who spent all night having a chat with their “second part of the heart” for instance. Stress and anxiety are also among constant symptoms of such students.
2. Teenagers with the nomophobia are “rewarded” not only by their academic “achievements” but also with a very bad aftermath for their health. Thus, over usage of the cell phones leads to all kinds of eye problems, myopia, disrupting of sleep and even such unexpected health “enemies” like diabetes, cancer and obesity. It is impossible not to mention an accident happened recently in Kazakhstan in which via mobile phone addicts there was a virtual attack to teenagers who were psychologically unstable. The accident was given a name Синий Кит (Blue Whale) and it resulted in several suicides among gadget-addict teens.
3. No one proposes that cell phones are exclusively bad, instead there is a call in this blog to limit the usage of them. Parents should regulate the screen time of their children. The government should properly train teachers how they should instruct students to use the smart phones for their essential needs. What is most important the teens should feel the life that goes around and finally grasp that it is okay sometimes to turn off their phones and “not to be connected”!
